DATED 6-7-44
Dear mom –
Here it is almost 2 in the afternoon and I haven’t done a thing yet today. In fact I didn’t get up till 11:30 this morn. I have a day off today so I’m just being a guy of leisure today. Sure hope this will find you doing allright today. Guess every one was excited about yesterday back in the States weren’t they. I recd. a letter from Genevieve yesterday. She’s really a nice girl isn’t she. Guess I’ll have to get reacquainted with her when I return to the States again. I also recd. a letter from you and Sis yesterday dated may 26-27th and was very glad to hear you’re both still allright. Hows Pop doing these days? Hope you recd. the money order I send allright by now. Oh yes – send those four pairs of heavy wool socks. It takes about a mouth for those things to reach me and if you don’t send them soon I won’t need them. I telegraphed Lee a dozen roses yesterday. Guess she will get them in 3 or 4 weeks. I’m glad you finally got the telegram for Mothers Day. I’ve got about 4 letters to answer today from C.K., Aunt, Lee, and Sis.
I want you to send me about a dozen handkerchiefs and a couple bottles of after shave lotion.
Yesterday I recd. a letter from Aunt Hattie saying she’s back home again. Her visit didn’t last very long did it?
I haven’t been into any devilment in the last few days so I have no reports on that today. Well I’ll close for now hoping to hear from you again soon.
Your loving son,
Earl D.
