DATED 5-30-44
Dear Folks –
Hope this finds everyone feeling ok and happy today. It’s another beautiful Tuesday here in England and I’m still doing fine. I’ve been off all day and I really put in some slumber time. I think I’ll got to the movies tonight for a change. Boy what I wouldn’t give for a chocolate sundae or a dish of ice cream right now. They still have such things in the States don’t they? I thought they would.
I want you to send me a couple of khaki (sun tan) shirts. Size 15½-33 the first time you get a chance. Have Staff Sgt. Stripes put on them before you send them please. I’ll get the shoulder patch here. I’m in the ninth air force now and the shoulder patch is different. I haven’t had a chance to send you all one as yet but I’ll do it real soon. Put some writing paper in with that to. See if you can get air mail stationary. I mean the kind with the wings on it like I used to send you in the States or something similar. I would like to have a couple of neckties and a hat size 7¼ also. One of those little caps. Thanks a million.
How’s Judy Judy getting along in the country now. She really loves the farm doesn’t she. I’ll bet she’ll be so grown up I won’t recognize her the next time I see her. Is her hair still blonde?
Guess you and pop will be real lonesome now that Sis is away to college. Guess some one in the family has brains. Is she going to teach school again this year. I thought she didn’t like it very much. She sure has a time making up her mind what she wants to do.
Tomorrow is payday here in England. Guess I’ll get three months back flying pay then. I hope so anyway. I make $140.40 a month now and hope to change that soon with one more stripe. (maybe)
Did you ever send me Benton Jeffries address. I’ll look him upwhen you do. Sure would love to see some of the old gang over here, It really get [sic] lonesome here at times.
Have you heard from my old boss lately. She said she recd. the picture and thought it was really ok. I’m sure glad they came out allright. I promised her one so many times she probably thought she’d never get one. She’s going to send me one of her in her new cadet uniform real soon. She says it’s really cute. Boy I’d love to be with her tonight. Jeanie broke her wrist the other day. That’s Lee’s “partner in crime” as she calls her. They are always getting into devilment when they’re together.
Have you been getting the $50 every month. Hope it’s been getting there allright every month.
Well I’m out of news again so will close for now hoping to hear from you real soon. Tell the gang hello for me.
Your loving son,
Earl D.
