ARMY AIR FIELD – FLORENCE, S.C. POSTMARKED DECEMBER 12 1943
Dear Sis,
Just a line to say hello & tell you that I sure had a swell time when I was home on furlough and even though I didn’t get to tell you solong in a proper fashion I want you to know that I’ll love you always for the wonderful things you did for me while I was there. I don’t realize how lucky I am to have such a swell sis till I want a car or something do I? Ha! Ha!
I have positively nothing to do here till the fifteenth and then I am supposed to go to a review school & take all the stuff over in seventeen days since I’ve been in the army. It seems as if I out rank all the guys around here & I can do most anything I care to & no one can tell me not to. Boy it’s a great life to be a tough old Sgt.
Sis – if you decide to join any branch of the service before I come home again make it the Waves will you because you’ll get to see more of the world there. I sure wish you could have been all the places I’ve been since I’ve been in the army. Well who knows. Maybe you can. I hope so anyway. Don’t you?
It is really cold here today. It was rather warm yesterday when I arrived but it’s kept me busy rushing these pvts. out after coal for the fire today. There is a new order out that a [sic] aerial gunner gets no detail or should I say work & I like that fine. All I do is sit around & act bossy. (Now can you imagine that?)
Well I can’t think of a thing new to write so will close for now & mail this before I go to supper. Oh yes the chaw here is awful.
Love
Bro. Toodle
