TYNDALL FIELD – FLORIDA DATED 11-7-43
Dear mom,
After a hard week I finally got a day off and decd. I better write you before I start on another week.
I recd. the stripes, shorts & watch etc. and thanks a million. The case my watch was in got all broken up on the way here but the watch was still allright so think I’ll keep it because I can just put it in my foot locker & lock it up when I’m working anyway.
I start flying tomorrow & get to fly every day in the week for two weeks and then if I’m still allright I’ll be an aerial engineer. Boy it’s worth the trouble I’ve gone through to get it though.
I want you to get your sewing machine ready for me when I come home because it seems as if none of my winter clothes fit me right. My waist is smaller than it was when I enlisted for some reason or another. I have also lost weight since I’ve been here but I feel fine. Now all I have to do is sweat out my furlough. I am going to have one of the best times I ever had in my life when I get it. I have so darn many things to do I doubt if I get to do them all in 10 days. Oh well.
I’m still on the verge of quitting Lee and may do it. I guess I’m to young to be so serious about one girl anyway. I have a new girl now anyway. I’m getting worse than a sailor “a girl in every camp.” That’s me. Ha! Ha!
I want you to try and get some film for the camera before I come home. Say – what size film does it use anyway. I’ve forgotten.
I don’t think I’ll be home for Thanksgiving but I’m not sure as yet. I’ll tell you next week sometime.
Well I better close for now. Be good & write me soon.
Your Son
Earl D.
P.S. Thanks for everything
