Homeschool History Classes
At the Oldham County History Center
First Wednesday of the month, 10-11 a.m.
207 W. Jefferson St., Rob Morris Educational Building
Homeschool History is a once-a-month program geared for busy homeschooling families who want to add a little something extra to their monthly curriculum. Offered at the Oldham County History Center in La Grange, this program is a fun, hands-on way for children to learn about the world around them and the county they live in. No boring history facts or dates to memorize, just plain fun! Relying on basic concepts, children will learn that history is all around them, just waiting to be discovered. Children will learn about the history of Oldham County, famous people from the county and their contributions, explore the History Center’s facilities, and learn how both the county and its culture have evolved over the years. Students learn about Oldham County’s role in United States and world history.
Each program topic will be supplemented by a variety of teaching methods including crafts when appropriate, hands-on activities, and artifacts from the History Center’s collections which teach about Oldham County’s rich history. Past topics have included: America: The 13 Original Colonies, Delia Webster: Conductor for Freedom, and Exploring Kentucky. The 2020 sessions will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Currently a morning session is offered from 10-11 a.m. which covers a wide range of topics. An afternoon session can be added based upon need.
The program takes place every first Wednesday of the month in the History Center’s Rob Morris Educational Building located at 207 W. Jefferson St. in La Grange. Cost for the program is a $50 Family Membership to the Oldham County History Center good for one year, or $5 per child, per session. Sessions run from Feb. – May, 2020 and Sept. – Dec., 2020. Parents/children with Family Memberships can attend each session free of charge. A Family Membership includes all children, all ages.
