DATED 10:30 Wed. night 5-24-44
Dear mom –
Just a few lines tonight to my favorite girl and then I think I’ll go to sleep. Boy – am I tired tonight. I’ve been up since six o’clock this morning & I was in town all night (most all night) last night.
I recd. a letter from you mailed April 3rd & one from Dad mailed Apr. 4th today and was real glad to hear from you two and I’m glad you’re both doing ok! I’m still fine as ever & getting into as much devilment as usual. Ha! Ha!
I got a letter from Lee today giving me the latest from dear old Lincoln. I sure would like to be with her tonight. Have you send her the picture yet? The one of my crew and I. I guess one of the others is good enough. She don’t need but one.
Mom – call Aunt Gena and Uncle up & tell Aunt I said for her to write me more often.
I haven’t recd. any mail with my new address on it as yet. Guess I’ll get some addressed to here one of these days real soon.
I hear that my little cousin Mildred Rankin and Gilbert Roberts were married and little Warren Jeffries and Margaret (the nurse) got a divorce. Things really happen in the big city of La Grange. Also old Ed. Smith got married. Don’t ask how I found out all these things but my ex flame told me in her letter today. (Her name is Brownie – remember).
In Lee’s letter today Apr. 15 she said she hadn’t heard from you for a few weeks but I guess you’ve written & heard from her several times since then. She probably has the picture long before now.
Well I’m going to sign off for now. I have to get up early again in the morning. Tell Sis and Pop hello! for me and write soon. Goodnite. G. I wish I could kiss you all good night.
Your loving son,
Earl D.
