DATED 5-3-44
Dearest mom,
Hope my favorite girl is feeling allright. I’m still somewhere in Ireland and, still doing swell.
I haven’t received any letters as yet saying you know I’m here but guess I will get them all at once sometime soon. Is that the way you receive my letters.
I am going to try and get the watch fixed I bought in N.Y. and send my good one you gave me home. Will you get Balfour (the company that made my school rings address) and see if they will make me a new one. The year was 41. If they can will you order me one out of my allotment check? My old one is getting worn but it’s still good for several years. I’d like a new one for when I come home. The size is eleven. And see if they will make them put my initials inside.
Are aunt & uncle still keeping the Blue Grass Tavern in full swing. I wish I was there tonight. A guy sure does a lot of thinking about the good tunes & things he once did when he gets here. Darn anyway.
Well mom I’m out of anything to write so close this time. Tell pop, sis, C.K. & all hello for me & be careful.
Your loving son,
Earl D.
P.S. I love you.
