V-MAIL DATED 4-16-44 [or 4-15?]
Dear Mom,
How’s my best girl feeling now days? I haven’t had any mail from you for quite some time so I guess everything is allright.
I’m now somewhere in Ireland and am safe and having about as good a time as can be expected. I’m doing the same thing I was doing after my first furlough at home.
I had a jolly time while I was in England. I’m all mixed up on things now though because everything they do is opposite to what we would do in the states. I’m having an awful time learning the British monetary system. (That’s the different kind of money they have here.) I haven’t been paid as yet so I don’t have to worry much. Things are really cheap here.
Tomorrow is Lee’s birthday. I wish I were with her to help her celebrate it.
Do you have any people in Ireland mom? Well I’m tired tonight so will close. Tell sis and Pop hello for me and lots of luck.
your loving son,
Earl D.
